The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded by ESPN and legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano with one goal in mind: to achieve Victory Over Cancer®. Since its start in 1993, the V Foundation has awarded more than $225 million in cancer research grants nationwide and has grown to become one of the premier supporters of cutting-edge cancer research.
The V Foundation is proud to award 100% of direct donations to cancer research and programs. Thanks to generous donors, the Foundation has an endowment that covers administrative expenses.

This fall, a young man named Tyler Trent took the world by storm with his positivity and outlook on life. As he has courageously battled cancer, all while rooting on his Purdue Boilermakers, he’s inspired millions.

At the 1993 ESPYS, Jim Valvano’s iconic speech, with the help of founding partner ESPN, launched the V Foundation and made our message clear: “Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up!”®
Near the end of each year, ESPN and the V Foundation team up to raise awareness and funding for cancer research. V Week begins on Giving Tuesday, November 27, and runs through December 8.
