25 Years of Funding Excellence: Luis Munoz, Team V
It was 35 years ago that I fell in love with Jimmy V. I remember watching him run around the court with his players after NC State pulled off the big upset to win the National Championship. His enthusiasm came through the T.V. screen that day and could be felt by all. Little did I know how Jimmy V would come back into my life.
Fast forward to 2015, when I was planning to run the New York City Marathon for the first time. As I looked over the available charities, I saw Team V. My eyes lit up when I read this represented the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Having both a father and sister who are cancer survivors, fighting this disease was always on my mind. Now I had an opportunity to not only run my hometown New York City Marathon, but to do it while raising funds for such a worthy cause. 2018 will be my 4th consecutive year running for Team V. I could not have found a better charity to run for as everyone associated with Team V has shown that same great enthusiasm that Jimmy V always showed. The level of support and camaraderie is second to none. As an added bonus, it seems that every year an incredible team is formed that unites and supports one another. There’s honestly nowhere else I’d rather be than running for Team V!

Raising money and spreading the awareness of what the V Foundation for Cancer Research does is so important to me. This is an incredible opportunity to one day rid the world of cancer. My hopes are that maybe my grandson and all future generations can have a world where they won’t have to experience what so many of us have unfortunately gone through, when family and loved ones have to battle this terrible disease. I hope, and sincerely believe, that the future is bright and the work that Team V does in raising funds will one day lead to an end of cancer. When that happens, I know Jimmy V will be looking down upon us running around with that same enthusiasm knowing we did it! And I will have the biggest smile on my face knowing that both Jimmy V and I were a part of it all!
