A Magical Ride with California Chrome
The Pegasus World Cup Invitational didn’t end the way any of us hoped. California Chrome was supposed to gallop to another thrilling victory, in not only a story book goodbye to the horse racing world, but for everyone rooting him on in the name of cancer research. It didn’t turn out that way. But you know what? That’s OK. Life isn’t a fairytale, and just because something doesn’t end the way you planned doesn’t mean it wasn’t successful. We have a motto for situations where things don’t quite go your way. You may have heard us use it once or twice. “Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up!”®
As California Chrome’s racing career comes to an end, our partnership has truly been an exciting one for all of us at the V Foundation. There are, of course, the races, where rooting for Chrome became a rallying cry not only for us, but for our supporters and those battling cancer across the country. His performance in the Pacific Classic in August is one we will never forget.
Thank you for a partnership that provided excitement, inspiration and a few more big strides towards victory over cancer.
For us, however, the true joy of our Chrome partnership has come from working with the amazing team at Taylor Made. Their passion for cancer research is incredible, and their commitment to the V Foundation has been amazing. From holding auctions with race-worn Chrome gear, to putting together an unbelievable fan sweepstakes around the Breeders’ Cup, the team at Taylor Made has gone the extra mile from the beginning to raise money for cancer research.
So, from all of us at the V Foundation, a hearty THANK YOU to the Taylor brothers: Duncan, Frank, Ben and Mark, as well as to majority owner Perry Martin. Without your vision, this ride would not have been possible. Lastly, to the horse who embodies the “Don’t Give Up” spirit, California Chrome: thank you for a partnership that provided excitement, inspiration and a few more big strides towards victory over cancer.
