Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic a Great Success!
Professional athletes, sports broadcasters and actors and actresses alike flocked to Raleigh to pull their talents together in support of the 16th Annual Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic. In making its highly anticipated return to Raleigh, the Golf Classic attracted over 11,000 people to NC State University’s new Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The University’s ROTC opened the tournament with a presentation of the colors, and course designer and golf legend Arnold Palmer made the first swing of tournament with an amazing inaugural tee shot.
Regardless of personal interest, the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic had a celebrity of interest for spectators to meet and greet. Captain Rod Brind’Amour, and players Chad LaRose, Eric Cole and Joe Corvo from the Carolina Hurricanes, as well as NC State University Baseketball Head Coach Sidney Lowe served as local celebrites at the event. They complimented national celebrities from the entertainment industry, like ESPN SportsCenter host Stuart Scott, Kimberlin Brown from “The Young and the Restless,” ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” Paul DiMeo, Jack Ford, co-anchor of Tru TV’s “Banfield & Ford: Courtside,” Former WWE Wrestler Bill Goldberg, Dennis Haysbert from “The Unit”, Season Six Winner of “The Apprentice,” Stefanie Schaeffer, and Chris Harrison, host of ABC’s “The Bachelor.”
In recognition of former NC State Women’s Basketball Coach Kay Yow, all 450 volunteers wore pink shirts in her honor. Coach Kay, like Coach Valvano, holds a special place in the hearts of NC Sate and the Golf Classic. Volunteers are committed to continuing the fight against cancer in their honor.
