Volume 2/Number 3 by: Jennifer Vargas Young at Seventy-Seven | | Jenny (age six) and her grandmother Roslyn Hernandez | Everybody has a least one person or thing in their life that has inspired them. In my case that one person is my grandma, Roslyn K. Hernandez. She is the best friend anyone could ever have! Although she lives in Pennsylvania she is probably my best friend! Also, she is a wonderful listener. You could go to her and tell her your most deepest darkest secret and she will never tell a soul! Additionally, even though she is seventy seven years old she is very active and very talented with her hands!
My grandma is my most superb friend. Also, she has many other special friends. It doesn’t matter if they’re young, old, fat, skinny, blind or deaf, she’ll still be very kind. Plus, she is an excellent listener! You can practically call her anytime of the day and she’ll always have time to talk.
Grandma also encourages me because considering her age, she is still active. My grandma has been in so many book and library clubs, I can’t even count them all! She loves reading. | | A quilt handmade by Jenny's grandmother, Roslyn Hernandez | Currently she is in a book discussion group and she’s having the time of her life! Also, she still participates in an exercise class.
Above all, she is very talented with her hands. My grandma can take pieces of fabric and make it into a beautiful quilt or pillow. Before she started quilting she loved to knit, crochet, and embroider. Also she had entered into some competitions and won awards. Furthermore, every baby born would receive a quilt and every couple that would get married (out of friends and family) would receive a pillow. Her art work is everywhere!
Subsequently, my grandma is the one only person in my life that has inspired me. She has taught me to only judge a person once you know their personality and not by what they look like. I’ve also learned by her example that it doesn’t matter how old you are, you can still do everything like everyone else. Since, after all, an age is just a number. ..............................................................................................................................
