Over the past few years, the understanding of the specific gains and losses of critical cell functions in melanoma have generated excitement for targeted therapy in this disease. We now know of a number of critical pathways within the melanoma cell regulated by specific enzyme proteins, called kinases, that no longer function normally. We will study the effect of blocking these pathways with new inhibitors in hope of improving the clinical outcome of melanoma patients.
