Each July, the elite from the world of sports and entertainment come together to celebrate the best in sports. The ESPYs honor those individuals that through wins and losses continue to strive to be the best. This exciting event honors the top athletes from many sports, spotlights the most iinspiring individuals involved with the games we love to watch, and relives the most unforgettable plays.

The highlight of the evening continues to be the acceptance of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.

In 1993, during the inaugural showing of The ESPYs, Jim Valvano was awarded the first Arthur Ashe Courage Award, a tribute to the passion that he displayed in the game of life. It was during his speech that Jim Valvano announced the creation of The V Foundation for Cancer Research. ESPN continues to honor Jim's memory by allowing The V Foundation to serve as the official charity for The ESPYs.
