Dick Vitale Gala to Honor Tom Izzo and Tony Dungy
5th Annual V Foundation for Cancer Research Event on May 21 in Sarasota, FL


The stars will shine brightly in Sarasota once again on Friday night, May 21 as Dick Vitale hosts his fifth annual star-studded event to raise funding for cancer research at the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota.  The 2010 Dick Vitale Gala to benefit The V Foundation for Cancer Research will feature one of the biggest names in college basketball coaching, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, and Tony Dungy, former NFL head coach, most recently of the Indianapolis Colts. 


The Gala is Vitale’s fifth annual event.  The V Foundation has awarded $2.85 million in cancer research funding to Florida-area cancer facilities with proceeds from the past four  Vitale Galas.  The 2010 proceeds will be awarded to fund pediatric cancer research at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, and All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, continuing The V Foundation’s commitment to fund research in cancer centers serving the needs of residents whose communities support V Foundation fundraising events.

“Dick’s passion and dedication to The V Foundation is unsurpassed,” said V Foundation CEO Nick Valvano.  “We are grateful to Coach Dungy and Coach Izzo, and all of the other celebrities who will donate their time to help make this event a fundraising success. It will be a very special night highlighted by some very special people,” Valvano concluded. 

As is Gala tradition, coaching greats and sports celebrities from across the country will join Vitale to honor Dungy and Izzo.  Names of additional celebrity guests will be released at a later date.
