Date: August 15, 2009  The 4th Annual Jimmy V Racquets for Research tennis tournament will gather together tennis enthusiasts from around the Triangle for a chance to play with the pros on an unforgettable day of fun and philanthropy. This event is unique in that all players regardless of their level of play, get hands on instruction from the pros in the clinic, and then get to immediately apply the lessons learned playing other doubles teams of equal ability.
2001 men’s doubles Wimbledon champion, and recent Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame inductee, Don Johnson returns as celebrity host to share his skills with you. He will be joined this year by 15 year ATP veteran Tim Wilkison; former US Davis Cup captain and winner of 15 career doubles titles, Tom Gullikson; and Jared Palmer, the winner of three grand slam titles and over 400 doubles matches. Funds from The Jimmy V Racquets for Research go directly to fund local cancer research. The V Foundation has awarded cancer research grants to 92 institutions in 38 states and the District of Columbia since it’s inception in 1993. Over these 15 years, North Carolina has received 37 grants totaling $8 million. More than $2.5 million dollars of these grants were dedicated solely to funding women’s cancer research, $500,000 to fight prostate cancer, and $325,000 to the fight against pediatric cancer. The V Foundation is proud to support local cancer facilities, joining forces with top cancer research center and scientists to eradicate cancer both here at home and nationwide.
 Cost per doubles team is $200, which includes an event t-shirt, breakfast, lunch, and a gift bag for each participant. Players must be 16 years of age or older. Stay tuned for registration information. For the second straight year, the tournament will include a Pro Am Division where participants can compete with pros. This is your opportunity to play with the best! Cost is $2,500 per team and spots are limited to four teams. This year participants may also choose to attend the festivities for the annual V Gala, held the weekend of August 14th-16th. Two tickets to Friday night's V Wine and Dine event can be purchased for $500. Two tickets to Saturday night's V Gala may also be purchased for $500 and $100 tickets to the night's Reverse Raffle may also be purchased. Participants may also purchase an all-inclusive package with two tickets each to the V Wine and Dine, V Gala, and Reverse Raffle for $1000 (representing a $200 savings).
