Jim Valvano’s “don’t ever give up” spirit led his 1983 Wolfpack team to a now-legendary national championship win.
That same “don’t ever give up” spirit rallied his friends and ESPN colleagues to form The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
The “Don’t Give Up. . .Don’t Ever Give Up!” spirit continues to drive The V Foundation to raise money for essential cancer research to keep Jim’s dream alive
Join our team for the 2009 Show Your Spirit! campaign!
Celebrate the annual start of the collegiate basketball playoffs by signing up your workplace/organization/school to organize your own Show Your Spirit! day.
When the playoff brackets go up, everybody pitches in $5 to join the fight in raising money for cancer
research. With the $5 donation each participant will “earn” the right to wear favorite team apparel to work or school, and receive a “Don’t Ever Give Up!” button to visibly show support for cancer research.
Team up with The V Foundation and join us for Show Your Spirit on Thursday, March 19 and/or Friday, March 20, 2009 (or a day that works for your organization during tournament season). You will be a leader on Jim’s most spirited team ever assembled, the team determined to cut down the nets in the fight against cancer.
HOW TO JOIN THE TEAM
REGISTER your company, organization or school with our easy on-line registration.
ENCOURAGE OTHERS to join your team to organize a spirited Show Your Spirit Campaign. Choose whichever day (Thursday, Friday, or alternate date) which works best for you.
USE THE PROGRAM MATERIALS to promote your Show Your Spirit Day and organize your campaign. A program kit will be mailed to you. Materials are also available to download from our download center. Some materials are also available in Spanish from the download center.
CELEBRATE the opening rounds of the collegiate basketball playoffs. Encourage everyone to donate a minimum $5 contribution and wear their favorite team’s finest logoed apparel and the “Don’t Ever Give Up!” Show Your Spirit buttons.
Indiviual Fundraising Campaign--Individuals who do not belong to a group can participate in Show Your Spirit by setting up an individual Show Your Spirit fundraising page to collect donations from friends and family. WHY PARTICIPATE? WHY CANCER RESEARCH?
In the fight against cancer, we all play for the same team. Cancer will affect us all in some way. One of every two men and one out of three women will get cancer in their lifetimes. Three out of every four American families will have at least one family member diagnosed with cancer.
Research will CURE cancer! Research discoveries lead to better treatments and better understanding of the hundreds of cancer diseases.
Proceeds from Show Your Spirit will fund essential cancer research for all types of cancer. The V Foundation proudly directs 100% of every new donation directly to research. Remember, every dollar counts!

Everybody loves a little competition!
*Create competition in the office between departments. (see which department can raise more money to fight cancer).
*Create a "tribute wall" by selling "building blocks" to honor survivors and/or memorialize loved ones who have been lost to cancer. Templates are available in the download center for a "traditional" block or a basketball style template.
*Create a competition between rival teams (For example, Duke vs. Carolina; Trojans vs. Bruins; ACC vs. Big East). Which team can get more supporters in the office.
* Plan a Show Your Spirit event around the NCAA basketball first or second round match ups. Fill out your brackets, set up the TVs and host a potluck to encourage employee interaction.
*Challenge and encourage friends to enlist their own company in the campaign.
