Dr. Gerold Bepler is the President and CEO of the Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center.  Prior to joining Karmanos, he served as the Program Leader, Thoracic Oncology at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla. Before this, he served as the Director of the Lung Cancer Program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, with joint appointments in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Cancer Genetics, in addition to being Associate Professor of Medicine with tenure at the State University of New York at Buffalo. While enrolled in the Medicine Residency and Hematology/Oncology Training Programs at Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Bepler was selected as Chief Medical Resident as a result of his outstanding medical knowledge, patient care and leadership skills. Dr. Bepler established an independent research career in July 1994, and headed the laboratory of molecular cancer epidemiology at Duke for five years. His bibliography includes 61 publications, of which 57 are related to lung cancer. Dr. Bepler serves as a reviewer for many national publications on cancer, including Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Cancer Research and International Journal of Cancer.
