A Whole New Level

It’s almost summer time and who doesn’t love going for a bike ride? Or what about a nice swim? Maybe a run? What about all three? How about riding your bike about 618 miles? Sound a little crazy, maybe? Let me tell you about a few people that are doing just that and they are doing it for The V Foundation. John DC Miles is participated in the St. George Ironman on May 5, 2012 in honor of The V Foundation. He has been writing about his journey here and how The V Foundation has been his inspiration for training. [...]

I knew I had to get involved when I looked right into the eyes of my dear friend Joyce Aschenbrenner. It was time. Joyce is a survivor. She is a battler. She is strong. Joyce exemplifies everything that we must be when we fight this dreaded disease. I too am i survivor which makes this cause very personal to me. While I have my friend Joyce, I have lost my friend Jack Gatto, an official for 36 years who was also one of our observers. I have lost my ex-wife, who to me was one of the finest people to [...]

Like so many others, Noel and Alexa Coon have been touched personally by cancer. The disease which strikes one of every two men and one of every three women in the United States has not spared the Coon family. The list of loved ones afflicted is long: Noel’s mother, Lulu, passed away after a battle with breast cancer at the age of 54, as did his sister, Marie. His brother Michael died of Hoskins Disease when he was only 27 after 15 years of treatment at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. His original prognosis was death in 6-12 months. A business [...]

Jimmy V is known as a world-class coach. While I remember him for that, I also remember him as a truly great salesman. I saw his incredible skill first hand as a graduate assistant coach at Iona College in 1976. And I will never forget it. In my first meeting with him he told me he was going to win a national championship. Seven years later he did it. For a 23-year-old grad student sitting in Jimmy’s office, experiencing his vision and passion was as motivating as seeing him win on the court. I learned many things in those years [...]

Meeting people and making friends are among the many joys that come with working in the tourism and hospitality business. Along with those joys, I continue to marvel at how benevolent members of the tourism industry are. Perhaps, our daily interaction with people from all walks of life is the reason. Regardless of our motivations, the employees of Kissimmee-St. Cloud’s tourism and hospitality industry generously support a variety of causes. One such cause is Give Kids the World, which assists terminally ill children who dream to visit our nearby theme parks. Now, another great cause is our partnership with The [...]
