After my brother’s bar mitzvah, he took a special trip with my father up the east coast to five different baseball stadiums: Shea Stadium for the New York Mets, Old Yankee Stadium for the New York Yankees, Veterans Stadium for the Philadelphia Phillies, Camden Yard for the Baltimore Orioles, Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox. This summer he is taking another trip towards the mid-west to see five more stadiums starting at Wrigley Field in Chicago. That will put his grand total at 12 different Major League Baseball stadiums. Just 18 more to go. We all have those sports [...]

Why The V?
Everyday we hear tons of stories about how cancer affects the lives of people across the country. We hear the stories of hope, triumph, victory and what some may even call defeat. At the end of the day, we are all still hoping that one day we will find the cure. One day our research will show us the answers we have been waiting for. May is National Cancer Research month and this year The V Foundation wants to show the world why cancer research will take us to that one day we have all been waiting for. Over the [...]
Pinterest…Let’s get pinning!
Yes, the newest trend. Fan us on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter. Subscribe to our YouTube. And yes, now follow us on Pinterest. You are probably thinking, why are you jumping on the bandwagon? Why does The V Foundation need a Pinterest? Well, let’s look at the facts. When we post a quote from Jim Valvano on Twitter or Facebook, we get TONS of likes, re-tweets and more. On Jim Valvano’s birthday alone we had more than 329 re-tweets and 788 likes. Why not create a Pinterest board with these quotes and help spread the word to the newest generation [...]
The Great American Try On
Clay Mathews, Wes Welker and DeMarcus Ware. Now that I have every football fan’s attention, warning this blog is not about free agency or the NFL. This blog post is about something that these three men are doing off the field. These men have partnered with Kimberly-Clark to support the Great American Try On. The commercial explains it all. You can request a sample on the website and see for yourself. All I have to say is, if it’s good enough for Wes, Clay and DeMarcus…it’s probably good enough for me.
Take it for a spin…
Spring has arrived! Even though there is some pollen out there, there is nothing like driving around town with the sun shining and the car window down. You know what would be even more fun? Riding around town in a Mars Red Mercedes E350A. The 7th annual Dick Vitale Gala has an extra twist this year. By making a suggested donation to The V Foundation of $100, you can be entered in the raffle to win this amazing car. But you better hurry, tickets are going fast and there are only a limited amount of raffle tickets. Only 1,500 raffle [...]
Could this weekend get any better?
March Madness has begun and there is nothing like leaving work on Thursday or Friday and heading to the local sports bar to watch the games and have a beer. Throw St. Patrick’s Day in there and I’m not sure if there is anything that could be more fun. Well, maybe you throw a house party. You get about three or four televisions in one room and have different games on each one (we did this for my birthday during football season, highly recommended!) Either way, you know there is going to be some beer around. And if there is [...]

Our Future is in Good Hands
Recently, The V Foundation celebrated its 19th birthday. CEO Nick Valvano stated that we are like a kid heading off to college, only we know what our major is. A few years ago, Richard Deans thought he knew what his major was, but he had no idea that his first job in a research lab would end up shaping his future. Richard Deans, a North Carolina State University Park Scholar, knew that undergraduate research was important for graduate school from the moment he stepped foot on campus. He found a professor who took undergraduate students and began working in an [...]
A Quick Click Helps The V Foundation
Who knew that liking a Facebook page could help fund research grants across the country? Starting on February 20, a simple “like” on Hooters’ Facebook page will send $1 to The V Foundation. The promotion will run from February 20 to April 2, and for every new “like,” Hooters will donate $1 to The V Foundation. Hooters has been a V Foundation partner since 2002 and has raised more than $2.1 million for breast cancer research. So, wait a few days and mark your calendar … and if your boss sees you on Facebook on February 20, just let them [...]
$120 Million Raised Thanks to Supporters Like You
The V Foundation has raised more than $120 million for cancer research. Since 1994, we have awarded over 450 research grants in more than 100 prominent research institutions nationwide. Although it is important to look back and realize what we have accomplished, it is more important to recognize that we could not have done this without donations, community events and support from the community. Whether it’s collecting donations at a local basketball game or the “Find A Cure” promotion from Corona, we are grateful for the support and donations we have received in the community. As we move forward, [...]
