You need JavaScript enabled to view it Joyce Aschenbrenner joined The V Foundation staff as Director of Communications and Marketing in November 2001. She was named Foundation Vice President in March of 2003 and Vice President of Special Projects in May of 2004. She served 25 years in collegiate athletic administration, first at the University of Pittsburgh as an assistant, and eventually Sports Information Director for Football, one of the first female sports information directors in collegiate athletics. At Pitt, she publicized a national championship football team and numerous high profile athletes, from Tony Dorsett to Dan Marino. Aschenbrenner was named Assistant Athletics Director for Communications at UNLV in 1982 and worked with the Runnin’ Rebel basketball team that qualified for the NCAA’s every one of her eight years and won the NCAA Championship in 1990. In addition, she publicized UNLV’s first-ever first-team All-America football player, Randall Cunningham who earned All-America status on the Kodak squad as a punter. As Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs and Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Colorado, Aschenbrenner was responsible for the areas of fundraising, marketing, sports information and events, as well as representing the University as Senior Woman Administrator to the Big 12 Conference and NCAA. She was an NCAA women’s basketball committee liaison to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament for three years. At CU she was also the athletics department liaison to the ROTC programs. This led to a three-year appointment by President Bill Clinton to The Defense Advisory Commission for Women in the Services (The DACOWITS) for the Department of Defense from 1996-98. The 40-member commission studies the role of women in the US Military and reported directly to the Secretary of Defense. Her appointment was a recommendation from the Secretary of the Navy John Dalton. Aschenbrenner served on the Board of Directors of the Nevada Special Olympics and was director of the Nevada Summer Games as well as various other community service in Pittsburgh, Las Vegas and Boulder. A graduate of the West Virginia University School of Journalism, Aschenbrenner is responsible for developing and implementing special projects for The V Foundation. She is also the Foundation liaison to ESPN, The V Foundation’s founding sponsor. She is director of the V Foundation Comeback Award program and created the Blow the Whistle on Cancer program and The Foundation's Show Your Spirit initiative. In addition, she created The Foundation's Spirit of Jimmy V New York Gala and coordinates the Jimmy V Basketball Classic New York Dinner Auction, the Dick Vitale Gala as well as other Foundation events.
