Brian Patrick O’Neill, M.D.
Brian Patrick O’Neill, M.D. is Co-Leader of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center Translational Research Program in Neuro-Oncology; and is Director and Overall Principal Investigator of the Mayo Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) in Brain Cancer. Dr. O’Neill holds the academic rank of Professor of Neurology.
Dr. O’Neill’s specific research focus is primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) and has led National Institutes of Health (NIH)-supported clinical trials and epidemiologic studies in this lethal but potentially curable brain tumor. His current research focus is on the interplay between virus and immune deficiency in the development of PCNSL.
Dr. O’Neill has served on NIH Special Review Panels and committees since 1999. He currently serves as a member of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) Working Group, and the Brain Malignancies Steering Committee, both of the National Cancer Institute (NCI).. Dr. O’Neill is a member of the editorial board of NeuroOncology, the official journal of the Society for NeuroOncology.
Dr. O’Neill has been appointed to major national committees that deal with scientific review, policy creation and governance, and advisory functions. He serves on the Executive Committee of the AAN Neuro-Oncology Section. In addition to the V Foundation he is a founding member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Sontag Foundation. He is a Charter Member of the Mayo NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA)
