Triangle Tennis Enthusiasts Rally for Research Funding Proceeds to Fund Local Cancer Research and Related Programs
(Cary, NC) The V Foundation for Cancer Research is proud to announce that it will be hosting the 4th Annual Jimmy V Racquets for Research fundraising event on Saturday, August 15th, 2009. Proceeds from this year’s event will directly benefit local cancer research projects. “This great event was developed three years ago to appeal to a different audience,” said Nick Valvano, CEO of The V Foundation for Cancer Research. “We want to give everyone an opportunity to be able to support The V Foundation while doing something they love.” The Racquets for Research tennis tournament will bring together tennis enthusiasts and professionals for a memorable day of fun at Raleigh Racquet Club. For the fourth year, Don Johnson, 2001 men’s doubles Wimbledon Champion and collegiate tennis hall of famer, returns as the celebrity host of the event. Fellow professionals Tim Wilkison, winner of 6 singles titles and 9 doubles championships, Tom Gullikson, former Coach of the Men’s USA Olympic Tennis Team and Captain of USA Davis Cup Team and Jared Palmer who won 28 professional doubles titles and one singles title in his career on the ATP Tour are also scheduled to attend. Registration cost per doubles team for the Round Robin Tournament is $200 per team. For those looking for more of a challenge, the ProAm Division allows participants to compete with the professionals. Registration is $2,500 per team and space is limited to four teams. All registration fees include an event T-shirt, breakfast, lunch and a gift bag. Participants are invited to watch the pros compete against one another in a ProAM Exhibition following tournament play. This is a rare opportunity for tennis fans in the Triangle to witness national and international talent. This year, Racquets for Research is a part of the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic events that take place, August 12-16th.
