8th Annual Show Your Spirit
(Thursday, March 19th and Friday, March 20th, 2009)

First two days of the Men’s NCAA  Basketball Tournament– if date conflicts with spring break or religious holiday, folks can participate in the program any day during the basketball tournament.

Don’t have to be a basketball fan to participate – everybody gets a “Don’t Give Up. . .Don’t Ever Give Up!” button to visibly show their support for cancer research.

Program in partnership with TeamESPN and thanks to a grant from NIKE, which will cover all program costs, we can assure all participants that 100% of their donation will go completely to cancer research.
It’s personal … Cancer touches everyone. Show Your Spirit is a cost effective way that everybody can participate in the fight against cancer – minimum $5 donation – added with folks from around the country can add up to make a major difference.

Any size company can participate – we have small five-person sandwich shops and big corporations – faculty members from schools – all types of companies – all sizes – every donation counts!

Last year, our “Show Your Spirit” event had 303 companies in 37 states and the District of Columbia participating in raising both money and awareness for cancer research.  These efforts raised a quarter of a million dollars toward fighting for a cure. – The V Foundation funds a tremendous amount in North Carolina! (See NC Quick Facts)

We are excited to again be partnering with Applebee’s in the fight against cancer.  Visit your local Applebee’s in 51 participating restaurants throughout North Carolina to donate $1 or more to The V Foundation.  Guests will be given a paper basketball to personalize and then hang in the restaurant.   In the spirit of March Madness, guests may choose from several different basketball styles representing UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, ECU and Davidson.   There will also be a special pink basketball available in honor of the late NC State Women’s Basketball Coach Kay Yow.

We would love to see folks in the Triangle (the home of The V Foundation) embrace the program!

While we enjoy the competition that the game of basketball brings to our area, in the fight against cancer, we all play on the same team.
