December 4, 2008: Drexel’s Nicole Hester Named 2008 Comeback Award Winner

Award announced on ESPN; to be presented at Drexel Basketball Banquet

Drexel University women’s basketball junior guard Nicole Hester has been named the recipient of the eighth annual V Foundation Comeback Award, given annually by The V Foundation for Cancer Research in collaboration with ESPN. ESPN will make the announcement during their broadcast of the MasterCard NIT on Tuesday night. The award will be presented to Hester on April 23 on the Drexel campus at the annual men’s and women’s basketball banquet.

December 4, 2008: ESPN’S DICK VITALE AND MICHAEL WILBON STAND UP IN THE FIGHT AGAINST PROSTATE CANCER 

College basketball analyst and sports ambassador Dick Vitale and co-host of ESPN's Pardon the Interruption Michael Wilbon have teamed up with ESPN, The V Foundation for Cancer Research® and Stand Up To Cancer™ in an effort to create a national discussion about the often ignored reality of prostate cancer and to help men start to understand their potential risk for the disease. Prostate cancer is among the biggest men’s health concerns.  It currently affects approximately two million American men; more than 186,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008 alone.

December 2, 2008: The V Foundation Teams Up with NBA and NFL Officials for 7th Annual Fundraiser: “Blow the Whistle on Cancer!®" Funds Cancer Research 

For the seventh consecutive year, The V Foundation for Cancer Research will join forces with the game officials of the National Football League (NFL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the annual Blow the Whistle on Cancer!® fundraiser.   This charitable event will run in conjunction with ESPN’s 2nd Annual Jimmy V Week from December 3rd-9th, a week of fundraising and awareness for The V Foundation and tributes for beloved coach and friend, Jim Valvano.

Held in Fleming’s private dining room, the evening included a reception followed by a seated dinner and wine pairing from a selection of delicious offerings.
