As CEO of 24 Hour Fitness, Carl Liebert III understands the power of changing lives through fitness. Responsible for the worldwide operations of more than 400 fitness clubs and 20,000 employees, every day presents an opportunity for this 24-year old company to help members live better and live longer. A former United States officer, Carl earned a bachelor’s degree in physical science from the United States Naval Academy. While there, he was a three-year letter winner on the nationally ranked basketball team, later earning a master’s of business administration from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University. Prior to joining the 24 Hour Fitness leadership team in November 2006, Carl was Executive Vice President for the Home Depot. In this role, he oversaw more than 2000 US and Mexico stores, and was responsible for sales, execution and operations. During his tenure at Home Depot, he successfully implemented a variety of innovations, including a self-checkout, back-end automated receiving, and several customer service and staffing enhancements. Earlier in his career, Carl served as Circuit City’s Senior Vice President and Division President of 317 Superstores in the company’s Western Division – consisting of 18,000 associates located throughout 32 states and generating more than $4.5 billion in sales. Previously, as Vice President of Corporate Operations and Six Sigma for Circuit City, he was responsible for supporting the “back-room” operations of more than 600 Superstores and the successful implementation of Six Sigma. While in this position, he created, led and executed a new store staffing methodology to improve customer satisfaction and yield significant productivity enhancements. Before joining Circuit City, Carl had a highly successful career with General Electric’s Consumer Products. He led Operations, Six Sigma, Retail Sales, Marketing and Direct Marketing for GE Warranty Management, a $250 million subsidiary that centered on the sales of extended warranties on consumer products. As a Six Sigma master blackbelt for the GE Consumer Products, he was responsible for introducing the Six Sigma methodology to the key commercial business of GE Appliances. At each step throughout Carl’s career, he has applied the principles of treating his associates well, focusing on the customer experience and building great teams that deliver results. He is a leader with vision and integrity, balancing his altruistic and philanthropic nature with his world-class business acumen. In addition to serving on The V Foundation Board, Carl also serves on the Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation Board of Directors, and the advisory Boards for both CameronBlue Capital and the Deming Center at Columbia University.
