coach1We sat down with Coach Muchnick and asked her a few questions about coaching and Team V. Check out her thoughts below!

Q: What advice do you have for beginner runners?
A: We all start as beginners.  We all begin somewhere.  I believe that life is a journey and where we are in that journey is exactly where we are supposed to be.  Here are the first steps in becoming a runner:

  • Get proper shoes
  • Find a training partner – like Team V
  • Make a commitment
  • Make the training schedule a priority – consistency
  • Progress gradually.

Q: Why did you want to coach Team V?
A: Once I heard about the opportunity I knew I just had to be the Team V Coach.  What an awesome combination – a great race – The Rock ‘n Roll Marathon, a great city – Raleigh, and a great purpose – The V Foundation.  It can’t get much better than that!

Q: What are your goals for Team V?
A:  What a great question.  Everyone must set an individual goal.  Each person’s goal is going to be different within Team V.  My goal as the Coach is to help each person set a reasonable, achievable goal and then coach them to success as they cross the finish line. It is my job to help the athletes prepare, plan, perform, and prevent injury.  By committing to Team V they already have a very powerful motivator.

Did I mention FUN?  …We are going to have a lot of FUN. I believe that the training process does not have to be about the “work” – it’s about the journey to  – and across – the finish line!

Q: What keeps you motivated when running in the cold weather?Coach2
A: Brrr… It’s cold outside!  I will have to admit that I am a fair weather runner.  But I am a fit person that runs and not a runner that is fit.  I truly believe in the importance of cross training.  Cross training not only contributes to improved running but also enhances total fitness.  Substituting different modes of aerobic training for running workouts is beneficial. Swimming, biking, rowing, elliptical, and stair climbers are all modes of cross training. I believe that you will enjoy the variety of activities.

Q: Why should someone join Team V?
A:  I believe this will be a life changing experience. It’s hard to explain what happens during a half or full marathon. There is fatigue, doubt, fear, But it is not all bad.  There is joy, satisfaction and elation. It may seem daunting and challenging.  But, you can do this!  What an amazing opportunity to meet lifelong friends and join a group with great coaching, guidance, and a team that wants to make a difference. Support Team V and raise money for Cancer and make the impossible … Possible!
